Who we are:

We are the local chapter of an international organisation started in the 1930's in Malaysia, called "The Hash House Harriers" (commonly referred to as "The Hash"). The "Bombay Hash House Harriers" was founded by David Reid & Jai Singh on 6th February 1983. Bombay Hashers hail from a wide variety of countries (India, U.K., Australia, Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic, U.S.A., and others) and represent a diversity of occupations in the corporate professional, diplomatic, educational and NGO realms.

What we do:

The Bombay Hash House Harriers generally meet once every month on the last Sunday. We convene at a pre-arranged spot, which might be in the heart of the city or might be several hours away. We meet to socialise and to enjoy a variety of settings that a particular area has to offer (recent venues have included Khandala, New Bombay, Elephanta Caves, Malabar Hill, Bandra, Thane, and Padga). Our main activity and the raison d'etre of the Hash is to run.

Further we have weekends out of town. Every Easter weekend i.e. Good Friday, the Saturday and Easter Sunday the Hash goes out to a hill station and spends two nights at the specified locale, may it be Mahableshwar, Matheran or Khandala. Also, we generally try to create a weekend hash out of town on every fiftieth run, i.e. say Run Nos. 200, 250 and 300.

Amongst other activities, we try to have moonlight runs every year. (As if running in the day wasn't enough!) We also have parties at nightclubs such as Enigma, Cyclone, Onyx, Zwigs, etc.

The run:

At each Hash, we run following a trail set by other Hashers, usually lasting about an hour and a half, taking us through city streets, jungles, fields, villages, etc. It is a great way to unwind, get some exercise, meet a wide group of people, and generally have fun. We also work up quite a thirst in the process, as you can well imagine. At the finish of each run, we return to our starting point and congregate to have a drink and sometimes a meal or snack. We also conduct what we call our ceremonies (in which beer plays an integral part), recognising achievements, dubious or otherwise - of our fellow Hashers by giving them have a drink and cooling their butts on slabs of ice. A typical Hash starts at 10:00 a.m. and finishes some time in the afternoon.
